Grimgar of fantasy and ash, is a fantasy story set in a new world where a group of young people simply wake up into. The story begins when a party of inexperienced hunters fight a goblin and barely escape with their lives, realizing that they are out of their element.

Flashbacks reveal that this party is actually composed of the initial group of people who came from modern earth and did not take well to the commands of a young captain named britney and a training facility.

They are forced to flee and find a man named Manato, who becomes their leader. They have to hunt in Hai to Gensou no Grimgar Novel for survival and even though things are hard in the start they band together and eventually they earn enough money from killing and hunting goblins that they are able to move from their small useless hut in the forest to an abandoned city.

However, in the city Manato is killed and everyone is shaken because of this, they are unable to get over the loss and realize that they never understood how important Manato was to all of them. After they have recovered they take on a new Priest named Merry, who is distant and still grieving the loss of her other group.

However, soon they all become friends and decide that banding together in Hai to Gensou no Grimgar new world is how you survive.
